Before beginning any conservation treatment, the item is thoroughly examined by the conservator to determine the most appropriate course of treatment and to ensure maximum reversibility.  A written condition report and treatment proposal will be provided to the client and must be approved before any work can begin.

Condition report, conservation treatment proposal and quotation:

You will be provided with a condition report and conservation treatment proposal. This will include a general condition assessment, an outline of recommended conservation treatments, photographs and a cost estimate. This will be completed within two weeks.

Basic conservation treatment includes:

•    Unfitting from framing materials
•    Backing removals
•    Tape and Adhesive removals
•    Surface cleaning
•    Humidification
•    Washing
•    De-acidification
•    Stain reduction
•    Mending of tears or infilling with suitable western papers or Japanese paper.
•    Flattening and drying
•    Retouching (only if required on that specific artwork)

How to obtain a treatment proposal:

Consultations are by appointment only, either in studio, your home or office.  Traveling fee will be included in the quotation. If you are not in Port Elizabeth, I request clients to email detailed photographs of the artwork to obtain a cost estimate, however, a final quotation is submitted once I am able to assess the work in studio.
The cost of restoration services are based on the severity of the damage, size of the artwork and time required for the restoration process, NOT the value of the artwork. Restoration takes between 4 to 8 weeks.

After treatment:

Conservation treatment report:

A conservation treatment report will be provided to the client once the job is complete. The report will include a description of the conservation steps performed and photographs of the item before and after treatment. Full amount quoted must be settled before collection.
